2009 Schedule is now Available!

Several dates have already been reserved by return guests (thank you!) so it's already time to start planning for next summer.  Please check in on the website for continuing updates.  Thank you to all our 2008 guests for an absolutely outstanding season of riding!

For now, we're going to enjoy the beautiful Wyoming autumn days.  Keep riding!

Active Rides on Good Horses

High Wild & Lonesome horseback adventures are not to be confused with dull "nose to tail" trail rides. A lifetime of outfitting experience has taught us that you will appreciate riding gentle, energetic, savvy Quarter Horses from the Click the image to view a larger versionremuda.  The rides are safe and controlled, yet physically active. Where practical, riders ride abreast and extended gaits such as the lope are favored, when and where appropriate.

Open-Range horsemanship philosophies and methods are practiced and taught throughout the week. The instruction is not formal, but ongoing, practical application whenever you are around the saddle Horses. You will be a much more confident and knowledgeable horsewoman at the conclusion of your horseback experience.

Away From the CrowdsClick the image to view a larger version

One of the greatest benefits that you will enjoy when you choose a High Wild & Lonesome horseback riding vacation is the intimate, exclusive experience that is not often found with guest ranches, pack outfits, working ranches or other trail rides where 12-50 riders are common. A smaller group means more personal attention, more privacy and more individual space. You won't get lost in a crowd at High Wild & Lonesome; group size is limited to 8 enthusiastic riders per week.

You will live out on the trail in a full-amenity, vehicle-supported ,wilderness-style camp. Sleep out under the stars or in a roomy, weather-proof canvas tent. A thick foam pad under your bedroll, plus the pure Wyoming air, promises you a good nights' sleep. Wash off the trail dust at the end of the days' ride in a hot shower or take a refreshing dip in the cool waters of the river just a step away from your tent door.

The Cowboy kitchen is the heart of the camp, where your camp cook uses Dutch ovens over an open fire to serve you hearty, western-style meals. Settle into your camp easy chair, pour yourself a cup of steaming hot Cowboy coffee and enjoy a varied menu with fresh Click the image to view a larger versionmeats, crisp salads, homemade biscuits and breads, and, if you still have room, desserts made from scratch.

At nightfall, take your favorite beverage and join the crew around the campfire. Enjoy old-time and contemporary western music and poetry, and maybe a few good stories from your wranglers. Some of these tales might even be true!

Wide Open Spaces

When you to ride with High Wild & Lonesome, you will be horseback in the midst of the wide-open spaces ofClick the image to view a larger version Wyoming, with 100-mile vistas stretching between the horizons.  Ride along the Continental Divide as it crosses the Red Desert or into the Honeycombs badlands wilderness of the Great Divide Basin. Find yourself along the banks of the Sweetwater River as it winds its way like a ribbon of refreshment through the high, cool desert.

This tall and uncut Country is the home of the true western perspective.   Cowboys, wild horses, historic trails, and ancient Native American campsites are still a part of this landscape. The fences are few and far between, "civilization" is a long way off and the freedom to ride is limited only by your desire.

Ride with the Wades

You are personally invited to join Mike and Bobbi Wade, and our teenage daughters Emily and Amanda, for the ninth season of this unique horseback experience. You have our word that you will go home with a fresh perspective and a renewed sense of self.  So get ready to pull your cinch, catch a stirrup and ride with High Wild & Lonesome!

A machine will show folks the man made things, but if people want to see God's own country, they've got to get a horse under them.  In spite of gasoline, the biggest part of the Rocky Mountains belongs to God  -
